About the Family

We are a warm, dynamic family of four based in Weston, Connecticut, with two wonderful children — a 15-year-old son with autism and a 9-year-old daughter — plus two friendly dogs. We’re seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and highly experienced Caregiver/Educator to join our household team and play a meaningful role in our son’s continued growth, development, and happiness.

Our family embraces a holistic and personalized approach to learning and care that has been truly transformative. We are looking for someone who is open-minded, proactive, and collaborative, and who will enjoy being part of a supportive, loving, and engaging family environment.

The position begins in Weston, CT, with the opportunity to relocate to Aspen, Colorado, as the family transitions homes. A live-in arrangement can be provided for the right candidate, both in Connecticut and in Aspen.

Position Overview

This role is ideal for a professional who blends education, therapy, and caregiving experience — someone with a strong background in autism support, education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, or behavioral intervention.

The Caregiver & Educator will work closely with our son to create engaging, developmentally supportive, and joyful experiences that foster independence, confidence, and meaningful connection. The role also includes collaboration with parents and other members of the household team to ensure a smooth, nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead engaging, individualized activities that build independent living skills, communication, and social development.

  • Organize and participate in recreational outings such as sports, hiking, amusement parks, YMCA visits, and other fun, age-appropriate activities.

  • Create a safe, encouraging, and inclusive environment that supports learning and self-expression.

  • Adapt daily activities based on sensory needs, behavioral cues, and evolving interests.

  • Provide positive reinforcement to strengthen self-confidence, communication, and life skills.

  • Maintain open, consistent communication with parents to discuss progress, milestones, and challenges.

  • Assist with light household tasks related to the children’s routines (tidying, organization, light meal prep 1–2 times per week).

  • Collaborate closely with the family to plan weekly schedules and special activities.

  • Be comfortable with travel, overnights, and flexible hours during holidays and family trips.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or background in OT, PT, Speech, Education, or Behavior Therapy preferred.

  • Minimum 2–4 years of full-time experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum or in a related special needs support role.

  • Deep understanding of autism spectrum disorder, including behavioral, social, and communication strategies.

  • Creative, energetic, and enthusiastic about helping children learn through meaningful engagement.

  • Patient, kind, and empathetic, with excellent interpersonal and observational skills.

  • Able to think on your feet and adapt in dynamic situations.

  • Comfortable with dogs and active family life.

  • Willingness and flexibility to travel and relocate with the family.
