House Manager – Westport, CT

A busy family in Westport, CT is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and hands-on House Manager to oversee the daily operations and maintenance of their 7,000 sq. ft. residence. The home includes an indoor pool and is currently in “fixer-upper” condition, requiring consistent attention, coordination, and follow-through. This position is ideal for a proactive professional who can ensure the household runs smoothly while the principals focus on their ventures and family life.

Household Composition

  • Two principals

  • Three children

  • Existing staff includes:
    – A full-time nanny (childcare-focused)
    – A weekly cleaning crew (Thursdays)
    – A cleaning professional who comes twice per week (laundry/basic cleaning)


Position Overview

For this household, vendor management and property management are the core priorities, far more than schedule management. The property requires daily walkthroughs, constant monitoring, and ongoing improvements. The House Manager will be responsible for overseeing an extensive list of vendors, coordinating repairs, maintaining maintenance schedules, and ensuring projects are consistently moving forward.

This role requires a high level of ownership, professionalism, and attention to detail. The right candidate will know how to anticipate needs, identify problems proactively, and execute solutions quickly and effectively.


Key Responsibilities

Vendor & Property Management (Top Priority)

Oversee and manage a long list of vendors, including but not limited to:

  • Dog walker

  • Pool maintenance (Glengate)

  • Carpentry

  • Painting

  • Gardener

  • Energy provider (Gault)

  • Dry cleaning

  • Laundry services

  • Deep cleaning & regular cleaning services

  • Sprinkler services

  • Holiday lighting

  • Tick control

  • Electricians

  • Internet provider

  • Garbage and waste removal

  • Renovation contractors

  • Flower/planter maintenance

Daily Property Oversight

  • Conduct daily walkthroughs of the home—inside and out—to identify issues, needed repairs, damage, or areas needing improvement.

  • Ensure all systems are functioning properly (e.g., Sonos, lighting, indoor pool systems, HVAC, etc.).

  • Create and maintain a running list of improvement items and ensure they are being addressed proactively and efficiently.

  • Coordinate all ongoing property updates, maintenance projects, and renovations.

General Household Management

  • Maintain active communication, scheduling, and follow-up with all vendors and contractors.

  • Develop and maintain updated household manuals, maintenance logs, vendor lists, and property calendars.

  • Organize household systems, storage areas, closets, and general home infrastructure.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all household-related issues.

  • Provide occasional assistance with errands or logistical household needs.

  • Ensure the property is consistently maintained to the highest standard.


Schedule & Start Date

  • Full-time position (typically Monday–Friday, with flexibility as needed)

  • The family is looking to hire as soon as possible


Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: DOE; please include salary expectations when applying

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a House Manager, Estate Manager, or similar hands-on household operations role

  • Strong vendor management and property/project coordination skills

  • Highly organized, resourceful, and able to multitask effectively

  • Ability to identify issues and implement solutions proactively

  • Tech-savvy and comfortable troubleshooting basic home systems

  • Professional, discreet, and able to maintain confidentiality

  • Local candidates or those with an easy commute to Westport preferred
