A kind, private family in McLean, VA, is seeking an experienced full-time Housekeeper/Family Assistant to join their devoted household team. Key Responsibilities (including, but not limited to)
Housekeeping (50–60%)
- Deep cleaning: dusting, vacuuming, mopping, polishing
- Bathroom and kitchen cleaning
- Laundry, ironing, linens, and closet organization
- Bed making and room resets
- Seasonal cleaning and pantry refreshes (especially when the family is out of residence)
Family Assistant / Household Support (40%)
- Running errands (post office, grocery store, pharmacy, dry cleaning pickup)
- Managing packages and deliveries
- Occasional local driving for the family’s teen/young adult children
- Packing and unpacking for travel
- Closet and wardrobe management
- Helping with anything that keeps the home running smoothly
Kitchen & Meal Support
There is a beloved chef of nearly 20 years who is kind, experienced, and communicative. While formal service is not required, she may give directions during meals to maintain smooth operations and strong food-safety practices.
Schedule
This role requires a flexible mindset and willingness to work different shifts as part of a rotating team:
- Flexible rotating shifts may include:
- 6:00 AM–3:00 PM
- 8:00 AM–4:00 PM* (typical training shift for the first month)
- 3:00 PM–11:00 PM
- Additional daytime/evening shifts as needed
*Note: for the first month, you will likely work the 8am-4pm shift to train, and then you may move to a few 6am-3pm shifts to continue learning the rhythm of the home and get acclimated to the foundational shifts.
- Everyone receives two consecutive days off each week
- Each team member gets one full weekend off per month
- Minimum of 40 hours/week; schedule may vary
- Staff avoid late-shift-to-early-shift turnarounds whenever possible to ensure proper rest
- Estate Manager is highly accommodating with appointments and schedule requests/swaps, as best she is able, depending on the family’s needs week to week.
Holiday Scheduling & Pay
Because this is a fully staffed home that supports the family year-round, each employee will be required to work some holidays on a rotating basis.
- Typically, staff rotate working either Thanksgiving + Christmas or Thanksgiving + Christmas Eve (if you work Christmas Day, you will not work Christmas Eve, and vice versa).
- Approaching holidays may offer less flexibility, but needs can be discussed in advance
- Holiday pay: time and a half
- All hours over 40/week: paid at time and a half
- Paid holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas
This is a full-time position with a minimum of 40 hours per week, with each week looking a bit different depending on the needs of the home.
Compensation & Benefits

- Compensation: $30+/hour, commensurate with experience (negotiable for the right candidate)
