About the Family
A warm, active, and close-knit family of six in Harwood, MD, is seeking a tech-savvy, energetic, kid-loving, and highly organized Family Assistant to help keep their bustling household running smoothly. Their home is lively and sports-focused, with three school-aged children—ages 9 (B), 12 (B), and 14 (G)—and one independent young adult (19, B). The family also has a very friendly and loving Sheepadoodle who enjoys being part of the action.
The parents juggle work, travel sports, school events, and a constantly rotating calendar of activities. They value positivity, teamwork, communication, and someone who can bring calm, structure, and joy to their everyday routines.
This family is constantly on the go and is seeking someone who can jump in, stay calm in the chaos, and bring a sense of humor to it all. If you love being outside, enjoy driving, and find satisfaction in helping a family “work smarter, not harder,” this could be your dream role!
Children: Four children: ages 9, 12, 14, and 19 (majority of support needed for the younger three)
Home Size: Well-maintained single-family home with an efficient, tidy layout (cleaner visits every two weeks)
Pets: One affectionate Sheepadoodle
Household Staff: Biweekly cleaning service
Responsibilities
The Family Assistant will handle a blend of family support, child assistance, and household management tasks. Key responsibilities include:
Family Support & Scheduling
-
Maintain and organize the family’s digital calendar by transferring information from mom’s handwritten planner into a shared virtual system.
-
Provide light tech assistance to mom, helping streamline simple digital workflows and household systems.
-
Support family travel planning, including booking hotels, flights (commercial and occasional private), rental cars, and dinner reservations.
-
Assist mom with team-related events such as sports team parties, tailgates, and gatherings for the younger boys.
Driving & Child Support
-
Drive the children (primarily ages 9, 12, and 14) to and from school, sports practices, activities, and appointments, as needed.
-
Serve as a safe, responsible, and confident driver with your own reliable vehicle.
-
Engage positively with active, outgoing children who have busy schedules.
-
The 19-year-old is independent and will require minimal transportation.
Household & Errands
-
Run local errands, including post office runs, dry cleaning, grocery shopping, returns, and miscellaneous household needs.
-
Assist with weekly meal planning and light meal prep; the parents love cooking but appreciate support with organization, grocery lists, and ordering ingredients. Collaborate on menu planning with family each week.
-
Pitch in with occasional laundry, such as folding, putting clothes away, or helping when the workload builds.
-
Perform light housekeeping as needed (general tidying—no deep cleaning, as a cleaner visits biweekly).
-
Accept package deliveries and serve as the point of contact for home maintenance vendors.
-
Schedule and meet routine contractors and maintenance professionals during annual or seasonal checkups.
Pets & Outdoor Support
-
Spend time with the family’s sweet Sheepadoodle, including walking, letting him outside, or occasional dog-sitting, if needed.
-
Join the family in their active, outdoor lifestyle—sports fields and energetic afternoons are a regular part of the rhythm.
Ideal Candidate & Personality
The ideal Family Assistant is:
-
Honest, reliable, and highly organized
-
Tech-savvy and comfortable maintaining digital calendars and simple workflow systems
-
Friendly, patient, kid-loving, and dog-friendly
-
A safe and experienced driver with a clean driving record and your own reliable vehicle
-
Energized by being outdoors and staying active
-
Calm, flexible, adaptable, and good-humored, even on busy days
-
A proactive team player who takes initiative and enjoys supporting a family’s daily life
-
Comfortable with variety—no two weeks look exactly the same!
Requirements
-
Prior experience in a Family Assistant, Household Manager, Nanny/Assistant, or similar private household role
-
Excellent references
-
Legal authorization to work in the United States
-
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed and travel with the family
