Private Family in West Village / Union Square, NYC Seeking a Temporary Night Nanny

Position: Temporary Night Nanny (Newborn Care Specialist)
Schedule: Overnight hours (typically 8–10 hour shifts), 5–7 nights per week
Duration: 4–8 weeks, starting end of May 2026
Compensation: $35 to $40 per hour
Start Date: Late May 2026 (baby due 5/22 via surrogate)

Family Overview

A single father based in the West Village / Union Square area is welcoming a newborn via surrogate (birth taking place in California). After approximately one week in Los Angeles, he will return to New York City with the baby and is seeking an experienced, nurturing Night Nanny to provide overnight support during the early newborn stage.

The father splits time between Manhattan and upstate New York, with a studio in Brooklyn. Travel may be requested but is not guaranteed. The household is well-supported, with a long-term housekeeper and a full-time nanny being hired separately.

There are three African hounds in the home; however, they are cared for by a dedicated handler and remain on a separate floor from the main living space.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide full overnight care for a newborn, ensuring a safe and calm environment
  • Manage nighttime feedings (bottle feeding and/or supporting feeding schedule as directed)
  • Establish and support healthy sleep routines and patterns
  • Diapering, soothing, and resettling the baby throughout the night
  • Track feedings, sleep, and diaper changes for parental updates
  • Sterilize bottles and maintain cleanliness of all baby-related items used overnight
  • Support gentle sleep conditioning (as appropriate for newborn stage)
  • Monitor baby’s health, comfort, and developmental needs
  • Communicate regularly with the father and daytime nanny to ensure continuity of care
  • Maintain a quiet, respectful presence in the home overnight

Ideal Candidate

  • Extensive newborn care experience, including overnight support
  • Calm, discreet, and highly reliable
  • Knowledgeable in newborn sleep, feeding, and developmental milestones
  • Flexible and adaptable during the early postpartum period
  • Open to potential (but not required) travel between NYC and upstate NY
  • Strong communicator and team player with existing household staff
  • Comfortable working in a home with dogs (though no pet care required)

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a Night Nanny or Newborn Care Specialist
  • Excellent references
  • CPR/First Aid certification (infant-specific preferred)
  • Up-to-date vaccinations (including Tdap and flu)
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.

This is a wonderful opportunity to support a first-time father during an exciting and meaningful transition, providing essential overnight care and guidance in the early weeks of his newborn’s life.
