Position Overview

A private couple seeks a highly organized, discreet, and service-oriented Live-in Domestic Couple to manage the daily care and maintenance of their Brooklyn residence, with seasonal relocation to Cape Cod during the summer months. This role combines hands-on housekeeping, health-conscious cooking, laundry care, and household management responsibilities.

The ideal candidates are proactive, detail-oriented, flexible, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively (including assisting a chef during dinner events). Discretion and professionalism are essential.


Key Responsibilities

Culinary & Kitchen Duties

  • Prepare light, healthy, and well-balanced meals in accordance with the principals’ dietary preferences and guidelines.

  • Confirm daily meal preferences and timing directly with the principals.

  • Shop for fresh, organic ingredients and maintain kitchen inventory.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully sanitized kitchen at all times.

  • Set and clear the table for lunch and dinner with proper and polished table settings.

  • Wash, dry, and properly store all cookware, dishes, and utensils after use.

  • Prepare tea, snacks, or light meals upon request.

  • Assist the chef during dinner parties and small gatherings as needed.

Housekeeping

  • Master Bedroom & Bathroom

    • Make the bed daily.

    • Clean sinks, counters, mirrors, shower, and toilet.

    • Replace towels as needed.

    • Refill toiletries and tissue boxes.

  • Powder Room

    • Spot clean and refresh towels as needed.

  • Kitchen

    • Wipe counters and appliances.

    • Empty dishwasher.

    • Sweep and mop floors as necessary.

    • Keep refrigerator and stove organized and clean.

  • Living & Dining Areas

    • Tidy common areas as needed.

    • Fluff pillows, fold throws, and remove clutter.

  • Take out trash, recycling, and manage compost daily.

  • Water indoor plants as needed (checking soil moisture before watering).

Laundry

  • Sort, wash, dry, and fold laundry as needed.

  • Iron light garments (t-shirts, jeans, napkins, etc.).

  • Ensure proper care of delicate and dry-clean-only items.

  • Send men’s shirts out for professional ironing.

  • Return all clothing and linens neatly to closets and drawers.

Household Management

  • Accept deliveries and promptly unpack and store items.

  • Maintain a petty cash log and collect receipts for weekly reporting.

  • Monitor and replenish household supplies (cleaning products, toiletries, pantry staples).

  • Coordinate errands such as pharmacy runs, dry cleaning, and grocery shopping.

  • Track receipts and expenses and submit reports to the bookkeeper monthly.

  • Obtain management approval for unusual or large purchases before proceeding.


Weekly Responsibilities

Deep Cleaning

  • Deep clean master bathroom (scrub tiles, clean grout, polish fixtures).

  • Change and launder bed linens.

  • Wash and replace all bathroom and kitchen towels.

  • Dust all surfaces, furniture, and baseboards.

  • Vacuum and mop floors thoroughly.

  • Clean kitchen appliances (oven exterior, refrigerator shelves, microwave).

  • Empty and sanitize trash and recycling bins.

  • Clean light switches, door handles, and mirrors.

  • Organize closets, drawers, and pantry shelves.

Kitchen & Inventory

  • Review pantry, refrigerator, and freezer inventory; check expiration dates.

  • Discard expired items and restock essentials.

  • Clean oven and range hood as needed.

  • Polish stainless steel appliances and wipe cabinet fronts.

Laundry

  • Wash and iron bed and table linens weekly.

  • Coordinate dry cleaning and confirm return dates.

Household Oversight

  • Communicate repair or supply needs to the office or principals.

  • Coordinate exterminator and vendor visits as required.

  • Maintain or create simple fresh flower arrangements weekly when requested.

  • Assist with preparation for small dinner events.


Monthly & Seasonal Responsibilities

Brooklyn Residence

  • Conduct comprehensive deep cleaning while principals are away, including:

    • Windows, baseboards, blinds, and ceiling fans (coordinate professional window cleaning with assistant).

    • Closet clean-outs and seasonal clothing storage.

    • Mattress rotation and laundering of mattress pads.

    • Organization of kitchen drawers, pantry, and storage areas.

  • Oversee minor repairs and service appointments.

  • Take car for washing, fueling, or service when requested.

Cape Cod Residence (Summer Season)

  • Maintain kitchen and guest areas for visiting family and guests.

  • Prepare brunches and light meals for guests.

  • Coordinate closely with chef for dinner events and larger gatherings.

  • Ensure porch, patio, and outdoor areas are clean and guest-ready daily.

  • Wash and iron guest linens as needed.

  • Manage trash, compost, and recycling.

  • Be available to assist the chef during high-volume periods, including the Fourth of July weekend.

  • Drive for grocery shopping and errands as required.


Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities

  • Maintain a weekly House Log documenting:

    • Completed tasks.

    • Repairs and supply needs.

    • Expenses and collected receipts.

  • Communicate regularly with the family office.

  • Coordinate vacation schedule and seasonal transitions (Brooklyn and Cape Cod) with the office.

  • Take annual vacation during January through mid-April when principals are typically away.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Prior experience in private household service required.

  • Strong cooking skills with an emphasis on healthy, balanced meals.

  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.

  • Experience with fine garment care and household inventory management.

  • Valid driver’s license and comfortable driving for errands (required for Cape Cod season).

  • Ability to work independently and anticipate household needs.

  • Flexible schedule, especially during summer months and special events.
