Family Overview
A busy and welcoming family of five—two parents and three children—residing in Manalapan, NJ is seeking an experienced and proactive House Manager. The household is fully staffed with a housekeeper, full-time nanny, and weekend nanny. This is a newly created role for someone who can take ownership of the home’s ongoing needs and projects, helping bring the house to its best possible condition while working collaboratively with an established team.
Position Summary
The family is seeking a highly organized, hands-on House Manager to oversee an ongoing and evolving list of household projects, repairs, and maintenance needs. This role will act as the central liaison between the family and all service providers, ensuring the home is consistently well-maintained, functional, and running efficiently.
The ideal candidate is proactive, resourceful, and takes initiative—someone who sees what needs to be done and either handles it directly or ensures the right professional is brought in to complete the job.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all household repairs, maintenance, and improvement projects
- Maintain and execute an ongoing household “to-do” list
- Coordinate, schedule, and communicate with vendors, contractors, and service providers
- Interview and hire contractors for larger projects and renovations
- Act as the primary liaison between the family and all external service providers
- Ensure all work is completed on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards
- Manage seasonal household needs (e.g., pool opening/closing, winterization, etc.)
- Conduct regular walk-throughs of the home to identify and address issues proactively
- Handle small issues as they arise (e.g., coordinating quick fixes if something is damaged)
- Maintain organized records of vendors, services, warranties, and home systems
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with existing household staff, including the nanny
- Step in to assist or coordinate support for staff when needed
The Ideal Candidate
- Highly detail-oriented with strong project management skills
- Experienced in managing private homes, preferably high-end residences
- Proactive and solutions-driven with a hands-on mentality
- Well-connected with a network of reliable vendors and contractors (preferred)
- Strong communicator who works well with both families and staff
- Able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Takes pride in getting a home into optimal condition and keeping it there
- Discreet, professional, and trustworthy
- Comfortable working in a home with a small dog (Pomeranian)
Requirements
- Prior experience as a House Manager or in a similar role within a private residence
- Proven experience managing vendors, repairs, and home projects
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work a flexible 2–3 day per week schedule
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
