Private Family in Upper East Side, NY Seeking an Experienced Laundress

Position Details:
A private family of four (two adults and their two grown sons) on the Upper East Side is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented laundress to manage all aspects of garment and household linen care. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a guaranteed salary of $1,500 per week. The family is open to a part-time candidate if preferred. The position is available to start ASAP. The family travels frequently; however, compensation remains consistent during travel periods.

Family Overview:
The household consists of two adults and their two adult sons, who regularly leave their laundry at the home. The family maintains a busy lifestyle and values a candidate who can independently manage laundry operations with expertise and precision. The home is a brownstone walk-up (no elevator), and the family has two friendly Jack Russell dogs.

Responsibilities:

  • Expert-level care and maintenance of all garments and household linens
  • Washing, drying, folding, steaming, and ironing clothing and linens
  • Specialized care for a variety of fabrics including delicate, high-end, and specialty materials
  • Pressing men’s dress shirts to a high standard
  • Care of bed linens, table linens, and napkins
  • Sorting laundry by fabric type, color, and care requirements
  • Managing laundry schedules for multiple household members
  • Maintaining laundry room organization and cleanliness
  • Identifying and properly treating stains
  • Ensuring proper storage and organization of clothing and linens
  • Comfortable working in a home with dogs

Ideal Candidate:

  • Extensive experience as a professional laundress (not a general housekeeper who “does laundry”)
  • Strong knowledge of fabric care, garment construction, and proper laundering techniques
  • Skilled in ironing and pressing, particularly men’s shirts and fine linens
  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and efficient
  • Self-directed with the ability to manage workload independently
  • Physically capable of navigating a multi-level brownstone (stairs required)
  • Reliable, discreet, and professional
  • Dog-friendly and comfortable around small pets

Requirements:

  • Prior experience working in a private home as a dedicated laundress
  • Knowledge of high-end garment care and laundering best practices
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move throughout a walk-up home
  • Strong references
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

This is an excellent opportunity for a true laundress professional who takes pride in garment care and is looking for a stable, well-compensated position with a respectful family.
