Location: Kensington, MD

Position Type: Full-Time, Monday–Friday, 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Compensation: $30–$35/hour (Paid through payroll as a W2 employee)

Benefits:

Position Overview

A private family in Kensington, MD is seeking a highly experienced, detail-oriented Housekeeper / Family Assistant to take primary responsibility for the ongoing care, organization, and daily maintenance of their home. This role is ideal for someone who has extensive long-term housekeeping and organizational experience, takes genuine pride in creating order, and enjoys maintaining a clean, calm, and well-functioning household.

The family is looking for a professional who works independently, anticipates needs, and naturally keeps a home running smoothly without requiring detailed direction. While the primary focus of this role is housekeeping, organization, and dog care, the candidate must also be comfortable assisting with school pick-up, light after-school supervision, and occasional overnight supervision for the children when needed.

The household includes parents, two older children (almost 12 and 14), and a large dog. A biweekly deep cleaning service is in place; this position is responsible for maintaining the home at a high standard between those cleanings.

Primary Responsibilities

Housekeeping, Organization & Home Maintenance (Primary Focus)

• Maintain a consistently clean, orderly, and well-kept home between professional deep cleanings

• Daily household upkeep including tidying, kitchen resets, dishes, surface cleaning, and light housekeeping

• Full household laundry care: washing, folding, ironing, steaming, and proper storage

• Organize and maintain closets, drawers, pantries, and common areas

• Create and sustain simple, effective organizational systems that are easy for the family to maintain long term

• Proactively identify areas that need improvement and implement organization solutions independently

• Source organization products and supplies as needed, including trips to retailers such as The Container Store

• Anticipate household needs and complete tasks without being asked

Kitchen & Meal Support

• Prepare healthy, simple meals for the family

• Cook nutritious dinners as part of the evening routine

• Maintain a clean, organized kitchen at all times

Dog Care

• Daily care for the family dog, including feeding, refreshing food and water, letting outside, and walking

• Must be physically capable of confidently handling and walking a 70-pound dog

Childcare Support 

• School pick-up and transportation to activities as needed

• Afternoon and evening supervision and support with routines

• Provide occasional overnight care when parents travel

• Ability to travel with the family when required

Errands & General Household Support

• Grocery shopping and household supply management

• Dry cleaning, shipping, returns, and other routine errands

• General support to ensure the household operates efficiently
